As Tim and I have reflected on the last 4 weeks we've counted our blessings and know we have so much for which to be grateful. Given the current global pandemic we wanted to do our part to help an organization near and dear to our hearts and hopefully encourage others in the process. One in six children in Cook County face food insecurity. During the school year, the school lunch is sometimes their only meal. During the summer months the Greater Chicago Food Depository launches the Kids Lunch Bus to ensure the continuity of a daily lunch. With schools in the Chicagoland area currently canceled that need is NOW.
We have set a goal to raise $10,000 through your generous donations and we will do a personal, dollar for dollar match up to $10,000.
Together, we can contribute up to $20,000 to help children in the Chicagoland area.
As you yourself reflect on the last 4 weeks we ask that you please consider one of the following:
1) Donate to our team - Think of the money we're all saving on gas, lunches/dinners out, our daily coffee treats, etc. and pass that along to GCFD so that they can continue this important work.
2) Join our team and help us fundraise.
3) Share this with your own friends and family and encourage them to donate.
4) If you are hesitant because you aren't a member of this community, please consider donating to a similar organization in your own geographic area.
The bottom line is this... many of us are blessed beyond measure. NOW is the time to come together as a community to help those who are not.
Tim, Ava and I thank you for your consideration and for your support in achieving this goal.
Be well,
Shannon, Tim and Ava
More from GCFD:
You can make an impact on childhood hunger by participating in the LunchTime to End Hunger® campaign. By donating what you would normally spend on lunch for a week, you can help the Food Depository deliver nutritious food for children at risk of hunger. A $100 donation can provide food for 300 healthy meals that will help children grow and thrive.
The Greater Chicago Food Depository is Chicago’s food bank. We provide food for hungry people while striving to end hunger in our community.
As Cook County’s leading hunger-relief organization, the Food Depository is part of a united community effort working to bring food, dignity and hope to our neighbors. We are at the center of a network of more than 700 partners organizations and programs – food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, mobile distributions and other groups – working to make it happen. These programs provide food where it’s most needed. We also address the root causes of hunger. Public benefits outreach and job training programs offer a hand up for our neighbors to overcome hunger and poverty. Each day, the Food Depository distributes the equivalent of more than 170,000 meals to people in need across Cook County. By taking hunger off the table, we enable families to focus on other priorities, like education, growth and security. We enable communities to face their challenges with confidence.
Thank you for supporting LunchTime to End Hunger®!
