Thanks for stopping by my page! I hope that it finds you well. This is effectively my little space on the internet where I shamelessly ask for donations so I can run the Chicago marathon via The Greater Chicago Food Depository's (GCFD) charity runner program.
If you're unaware of the GCFD's mission, they act as a hub for 700+ food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters and other programs around the city of Chicago. This may come as a shock, but humans of all shapes/sizes/origin/creed/etc. need to eat food to survive. It's extremely critical. So many of us never have to consider how we'll get our next meal, or travel great distances to access fresh produce, but these are unfortunate realities for scores of Chicagoians (as well as folks from all over the world). With each dollar of donation, you're helping to ensure that some kind soul out there is able to find the fuel needed to survive another day. Without the worry of food, they'll be able to devote mental resources towards other pressing issues that will better their lives. The benefits of your donation compound from there.
I think that a lot of folks inject a personal anecdote at this point, or possibly earlier in the page. They usually tell you all about how the charity they're running with/for has impacted their own life and the whole thing really works to pull at your heart strings to open up your wallet. I'm electing to not include such a story (although they are effective) and instead ask that you focus on what's important:
- Thousands of folks are food insecure, and that's objectively wrong when you have an economy as advanced as ours
- The GCFD is a reputible organization (they scored a rare 92.35/100 by charitynavigator.org)
- Your donation is tax deductable* (I'm like, 99% sure about this. I am not a tax expert or a financial advisor)
I'm tasked with raising $1,750 by Dec 2021. Thank you for your time, consideration, and contribution towards my goal.
