Welcome to my fundraising page for the 2018 Bank of America Chicago Marathon.
About 15 years ago I ran my first 5k, where unfortunately I cried the whole time. This October, I will be running my first marathon, where I will also likely cry the whole time...
That being said, help me to give these tears a purpose, by contributing to my marathon fundraising goal of raising $1,300 towards the Greater Chicago Food Depository.
Your donation will help feed the 812,000 men, women and children served by the Food Depository each year. No one deserves to go to bed hungry.
Because of you, someone will eat today!
About the Greater Chicago Food Deposity
The Greater Chicago Food Depository, Chicago’s food bank, is a nonprofit food distribution and training center providing food for hungry individuals while striving to end hunger in our community. The Food Depository, founded in 1979, makes a daily impact across Cook County with a network of 700 pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, mobile programs, children’s programs, older adult programs and innovative responses that address the root causes of hunger. Last year, the Food Depository distributed 72 million pounds of shelf-stable food, fresh produce, dairy products and meat, the equivalent of 164,000 meals every day. Why did I choose to run for the Greater Chicago Food Depository?
I spent all four of my undergraduate years at UVA heavily invested in the local Charlottesville food bank, Loaves and Fishes. My time volunteering with Loaves and Fishes was one of the most transformative and rewarding experiences of my undergraduate career, and though much has changed since my move to Chicago last summer, my desire to give back to the community’s food bank remains unaltered. Though the 26.2 miles are daunting, I know every training mile, no matter how difficult, will be worth it in the end when almost 4,000 meals are provided as a result of our fundraising efforts.
